Reconstruct – Direct Children’s Services are looking for people to join our team of advocates covering the following areas:
Locations: Bristol, Gloucestershire, Milton Keynes, Reading, South Gloucestershire, Surrey
You will be working for an organisation whose focus is on enabling the voice of children & young people to be heard, improving their lives and ensuring they have the best possible outcomes.
As an advocate, you will empower children and young people to have a voice throughout their journey within the care system, and feel listened to, safe and cared for. You will support them to share their views, wishes and feelings about decisions being made regarding their care and education by the Local Authority, and ensure that these are actively considered;
The aim of this service:
Our aim is to provide high-quality, independent advocacy to enable improved outcomes for looked after children including leavers up to the age of 25; children subject to child protection planning; children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND); children & young people who wish to make a complaint about the service they receive.
The role of a Children’s Advocate: To empower children and young people feel heard and to grow in confidence

To support children and young people to actively participate at their Child Protection Conferences and Child in Care review meetings

To have the ability to build a rapport with a child or young person

To advocate on behalf of young people in different care settings

0 hour contract – hours required are based upon hours needed with the matched child. We are totally transparent with each match as to how few or how many hours you can and are committed to – Ranging from 0 hours per week up to 12 hours per week.

What we are looking for:

Previous experience of working with children and young people / adults is essential

A clean driving licence and access to your own car or good links to public transport

The role is a freelance associate who can conduct Return Home Interviews for children and young people who are reported missing from home or care across England! Experience is not essential but would be a benefit.
The main areas but not limited to are
Across London
Birmingham
Kent
These need to be face to face for children and young people who have been reported as missing!
Travel will be required as these are not to be undertaken on the telephone. We will attempt to allocate referrals on a geographical area.
The requests for RHI’s must be responded to and conducted within 72 hours of the referral, so this a fast-paced piece of work, but is as and when required.

You will not be required to be undertake the advocacy if you are not experienced but would be good to have an understanding if the CYP would benefit from an Advocate.

We are a provider of Independent Visiting and Advocacy services for looked after children and young people across the UK.
Our Independent Visiting Service offers children and young people in the care of a local authority the opportunity to build a long-term, trusting one-to-one relationship with a reliable and committed adult role model.
Our Advocacy Service supports children and young people in local authority care by providing independent advocacy, empowering them to have their voices heard and helping them to grow in confidence.
We are seeking an individual to join our team who has at least two years’ demonstrable experience of direct work with children and young people, including working with individuals from diverse backgrounds,alongside excellent administrative and organisational skills.
This is a dual-role position working across both the Independent Visiting and Advocacy services.
Within the Independent Visiting Service, the successful candidate will coordinate the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers who provide befriending support to children and young people in thecare of Bristol City Council, helping to ensure a safe, effective, and high-quality service.
Within the Advocacy Service, the successful candidate will help promote and publicise the service, maintain effective communication with partners, and support sessional advocates to ensure a responsive andtimely service. The role will also involve undertaking a range of administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the service.
You will work as part of a small, supportive team and contribute to the day-to-day running of both services, ensuring high standards of delivery and positive outcomes for the children and young people we support.The role will help ensure services remain independent, child-centred, and responsive to the voices of children and young people.
Key Tasks
-
Support the delivery of a statutory Independent Visitor service for children in care and care leavers, supporting the development of consistent and meaningful relationships with trusted adult volunteers.
-
Support with the recruitment, assessment, training and supervision of volunteers, ensuring they are well prepared and supported to provide long-term befriending relationships for young people.
-
Build and maintain effective working relationships with children and young people, volunteers, and key professionals involved in their care.
-
Promote a child-centred approach, ensuring that the wishes and feelings of young people inform decisions and practice wherever possible, except where safeguarding concerns apply.
-
Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery.
-
Take responsibility for the day-to-day coordination and support of volunteers, working alongside the Lead coordinator and Service Manager to ensure accurate reporting, monitoring and compliance with contract requirements.

To provide 5 hours of administrative support to the advocacy service; including inputting data onto the computer management system, writing communications and promoting the service.
Additional tasks:

The post holder will be required to work flexibly which can include outside of standard office hours, including evenings and weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service and the young people we support.

The role will involve visits to children and young people; therefore the post holder must be willing and able to travel to these appointments as required.

Experience
