Main Purpose of Job

To coordinate Reconstruct’s Independent Visiting services alongside a team of coordinators.

Ensure referrals are allocated to the most suitable volunteers from our pool of volunteers and to manage and supervise this match ensuring the service is child-led and is providing an excellent service to customers.


Duties, Responsibilities & Job Activities

Key Tasks:

  • To carry out specific tasks to deliver this service- managing day to day referrals and case allocations, supporting visitors, managing casework and files, initial visits with young people requiring a visitor, and following up paperwork associated with these visits, updating databases and monitoring systems.
  • To take a Safeguarding approach in all aspects of the role.
  • To ensure a prompt and appropriate response is made to all children and young people.
  • To assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers to deliver independent services.
  • To assist in supporting volunteers to safely deliver independent visiting services.
  • To involve young people in the development of the service.
  • To liaise with social workers, carers and other professionals on young people’s behalf.
  • To keep accurate records and monitor systems in relation to the above activities.
  • To store, save and share information in line with GDPR.
  • To assist in developing a strategic plan for Reconstruct’s Children’s services in consultation with line manager and other children’s’ services staff.
  • The post holder will need to be able to work independently, and will be part of a supportive team using professional judgement and initiative.
  • To contribute to the quality of the service and standards of professional practice.
  • To meet regularly with the Children’s Services Manager for supervision.
  • To attend training as agreed with manager.
  • To attend team planning days.
  • To work within the policies and agreed practices of Reconstruct.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Day to day service delivery
  • Allocating cases
  • Liaising with social workers
  • Gathering feedback
  • Signing off expenses/timesheets

Additional tasks:

  • The post holder will need to be able to work after school hours and at weekends occasionally to meet the needs of the service.
  • The post holder will need to make some visits to young people and will need to drive or travel to these visits. 
  • The post holder will also need to attend occasional company-wide meetings which may involve travel to Coventry.


Person Specification


Essential Desirable

Computer skills necessary to support the activities of the service – e.g. word processing/processing emails.

An ability to keep accurate records of all work

An ability to maintain administration systems to support the activities of the service.

Effective communication and negotiating skills


Knowledge and Experience

Essential Desirable

Previous Experience of working directly with children and young people

An ability to relate to young people

Experience of work with children and young people and of promoting their rights.

An understanding of Safeguarding and child protection.

A commitment to equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice.

Knowledge and understanding of young people in the care system and relevant legislation. 



Essential Desirable


A relevant qualification in social work, youth and community work, education or similar.


Other requirements

Essential Desirable

Clean driving licence and access to a car.

Flexibility to working outside office hours.

A satisfactory enhanced DBS check
