Participation

Participation can be broadly defined as getting groups of young people involved in shaping the decisions made about them.

Here are some of the ways we have been creating positive change through Participative work:

  1. Formation of Children in Care Councils
  2. Lobbying local authorities on key policies and strategies
  3. Producing new innovative ways of working in collaboration with local authorities
  4. Providing bespoke child and care leaver led training to practitioners
  5. Involving children in interviewing for social workers, residential staff and senior manager positions
  6. Publishing magazines written by children in care for children in care.

The children we work with are seeing real differences in their local areas; Participation is creating real, equal and non-tokenistic working relationships between senior managers and the children they corporate parent.

There has been great for the individuals who participate most frequently but also for the wider care population.

For more information on our flagship Children in Care Council visit www.rvoice.co.uk – this site has been designed and constructed by the Bristol Children in Care Council.
