Safer recruiting - new guidance
Updated training from Reconstruct to help you make sure your
recruitment procedures are safe
Recent events have highlighted the importance of making your recruitment procedures as safe as possible. Alongside this we also need to develop an ongoing culture of vigilance in all organisations that provide services for children.
The establishment of the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) and the vetting and barring arrangements for anyone working with, or having access to, children is part of the biggest overhaul of such arrangements ever undertaken in this country. The ISA covers 11.3 million people who want to seek work or volunteer with children or vulnerable adults.
Now, changes to the regulations mean that from July 2010, people working with children and vulnerable adults can apply to be registered with the ISA. From November 2010 it will be mandatory for all new applicants and those moving into working with children to be registered with the ISA.
Against this background, Reconstruct has developed this one day training course to provide an opportunity for those who are involved in the recruitment of staff and volunteers who will be working with or have access to children to try to ensure that their recruitment and selection processes include measures that help to deter, reject or identify people who might abuse children.
The training covers:
- an overview of the significant reports that have highlighted the issues of safer recruitment practices including the Bichard Inquiry report (2004), Choosing with Care (Warner 1992) and People Like Us (Utting 1997)
- gaining a better awareness and understanding of offender behaviour
- identifying key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
- explore how participants can develop a safe culture within their organisation
- policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse and ensure its prompt reporting
- information about the ISA and the new vetting and barring arrangements.
Our training is run in-house on dates to suit you and content can be adjusted to meet the needs of you and your organisation.
