‘In Our Shoes’, a training package which was designed by care leavers from Bristol City Council and Reconstruct participation workers, has won TWO national awards. The training is for professionals who work with children and young people in care. It is about putting participants inside the minds of children and seeing things from the inside out rather than the outside in. It is educational, interactive and above all else fun. There are no Powerpoints!
The training has won prizes in two categories of the Children and Young People Now Awards 2011 and young people and Reconstruct staff will be attending the awards ceremony in London later this month.
We are extremely proud of the staff and the young people involved in this project and pleased that their hard work and effort has been rewarded in this way.
"Children and young people in care face issues and experience feelings that some people may never face in a lifetime. It is important that these children and young people are understood by those who take care of them, as they may not always be able to express how they’re really feeling."
