Children with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to
exploitation and abuse. Carers and workers need to be
vigilant to ensure disabled children’s voices are heard so
they are protected by a system that is sensitive to their
individual needs.This course looks at responding to
allegations and undertaking investigations and other formal
procedures. Participants from all agencies are encouraged
to develop sensitive interventions.
Learning outcomes cover:
- The context of care for disabled children.
- The impact of social attitudes on the provision of
services to this group.
- The barriers to effectively safeguarding disabled children.
- Ways to ensure these children have a voice in the
provision of services.
- Different communication strategies that support the
disabled child’s right to be heard.
