Sonya Chowdhury

Sonya Chowdhury is an Assistant Director for Barnardo’s South West. Sonya has had a range of management and operational experience in both the statutory and voluntary sector. She is a qualified social worker and has fostering and adoption experience within a Looked After Team alongside child protection and safeguarding work within a Referral and Assessment Team.

Additional work experience includes Specialist Support Work with young people with substance misuse problems; voluntary information and advice work with young people; Management Committee experience on three voluntary sector organisations and currently as Chair of CROA (UK-wide Children’s Rights Officers and Advocates organisation); as a Children’s Rights & Advocacy Service Manager and as an Operations Manager. Sonya also works as an Independent Trainer & Social Worker undertaking fostering assessments as well as independent training work.

Sonya is a mother of two boys and is a respite foster carer for three children.
