Steve Chamberlain

Steve Chamberlain has been working in social care since 1978. He started his career with adolescents in a residential unit, and qualified as a social worker in 1983. During the 1980s he worked in a generic ‘patch’ team, undertaking child protection and child care planning work. He qualified as an Approved Social Worker in 1987.

Steve moved into a mental health team in 1991 and has specialised in working with adults since then. He continues to practice as an Approved Mental Health Professional (previously ASW) and since 1999 has managed a Community Mental Health Team, an older people’s mental health service and most recently has been social work lead for mental health in Kensington and Chelsea.

He is currently seconded to the regional office of the Department of Health as London Implementation Lead for the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

He has worked as an associate trainer for Reconstruct since 1997, training mainly on Mental Health and Parenting, but also teaching Mental Health Law to social workers and other professionals.
