Mel Duncan

Mel Duncan started working with socially excluded individuals in 1987 where she worked with homeless adults and later with young people. She then worked with children with learning difficulties as assistant teacher after leaving college with diploma in higher education.

She has worked as a residential social worker in children’s homes and secure units and as a probation service officer responsible for running home office accredited training. She became a home office accredited trainer during this time and trained staff across the country to run a variety of programmes.

Mel worked as a freelance trainer and group worker with people with drug and alcohol addictions between 2005 – 2006.

Most recently Mel has worked as a participation worker and freelance advocate with young people in care and is currently the south west placement manager for company working with care leavers.

She is also now the Coordinator for the Advocacy Service that Reconstruct provide for Devon County Council.

Her qualifications include advanced counselling, dip.HE and she is currently studying for a degree in social science.
