Barry Raynes

Barry Raynes has a Masters degree in Public Sector Management and is currently researching his PhD into common language in child protection, supervised by Jan Horwath from Sheffield University.

He has had chapters published on assessment in Working for Children on the Child Protection Register (Arena 1999) and Assessments in Child Care (RHP 2003) as well as recent articles in Community Care and Representing Children and has a publication pending Safeguarding Children - The Foundations for Good Practice (OUP) with Jim Wild.

He has just completed writing joint child protection procedures for eleven Local Children’s Safeguarding Boards in South-West England, the first set produced as a web-based application and written in plain English. These can be viewed at www.swcpp.org.uk

He is the executive director of Reconstruct and has worked as a freelance trainer and consultant throughout most of the British Isles from Shetland to Guernsey. He has overseen all of the serious case reviews and audits conducted by Reconstruct. He has experience as a residential social worker, social worker, manager and staff development officer.
